I get really tired of people reimplementing the same things over and over again; it happens even with CPAN because people don't like the sugar APIs that somebody else has designed, and because the internals underneath those aren't sufficiently layered.

The answer to this is, of course, to split things up even more - to focus on separation of mechanism and policy and on paying for what you use.

In this talk, I'll discuss how you figure out which is which, what to do about it once you do understand, the necessity for dual implementations to keep you honest, and mention a module or three that's going in this direction and what additional uses that's enabled.
